DESIGN
The project’s master plan primarily focuses on the inclusion of public spaces of varying sizes, inspired by the urban fabric of Aleppo, and their integration with the surrounding context. This approach gives the area a unique identity and enhances the sense of security and community belonging, particularly addressing the social and environmental aspects that influence residents’ behavior and well-being, while seamlessly reintegrating them into the social fabric.
The design aims to reflect the local culture while accommodating the diverse backgrounds of the residents by connecting the project units with a 3×3 modular grid. These units are constructed on isolated foundations to mitigate earthquake risks. Furthermore, each building is designed with a private courtyard to foster social interaction among residents, creating a sense of familiarity and belonging.
Sustainability is also a key focus, emphasized through the use of locally available materials and light-reflective colors, as well as the implementation of environmental and architectural solutions such as wind catchers, double walls, interior courtyards, balconies, and green spaces.
These green areas are utilized for agriculture and animal husbandry to ensure food security for the city’s residents. Additionally, rainwater and greywater are collected and reused in the irrigation system, while solar panels and wind turbines are employed for electricity generation.
Ultimately, “our vision is to design a neighborhood that fosters community, encourages meaningful interactions, and allows residents to build new memories while overcoming the pain of their past.”
